A 19th Century Dieppe, France ivory hand-carved piece, meant to hold a lady’s cosmetic powder. Dieppe was and is famous for its ivory creations from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Even today, le Château de Dieppe has a famous museum showcasing 3 centuries of its ivory creations. Ivory carving actually started there after 1364, thought to be a consequence of trade with the Ivory Coast during the Age of Exploration. This piece is very old, and has minor imperfections, all visible in the photos. Please study the photos carefully, as there are no returns.
