First Modern Library edition, fifth-year printing hardcover copy of To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf (Random House / Modern Library, 1937). With the number of “available titles” listed on the jacket being 271, that dates the printing of this copy to 1941. A hard to find vintage copy of this beloved work of fiction.
Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with some rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creasing and some tears. Pen marking above author name on front cover. Liquid damage to bottom half or so of fore edge of jacket. Faint discoloration to outer edge boards that are otherwise straight and clean. Corners bumped. Binding is firm though spine is slightly cocked. Previous owner’s inscription on fep. They apparently underlined new character names in pencil when they first appeared, I erased those I saw but it’s possible I missed one or two. Foxing to outer edges of text block.
