This is an amazing black see-through straw wide brim hat from the 1950s'. It consists of a short, flat and round crown covered in velour, and lined in a shiny copper colored fabric on the insideAround the crown there is a velour band that ends in a bow at the back.Surrounding the crown there is a beautiful see-through wide brim that is folded upwards at one side.There isrhinestone brooch that anchors the quill of a large black ostrich feather.The stays covered in velour at each side on the inside are a sign of the hat's era.These stays are tom hold the hat in place.Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Hats were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble.
