FUNTASTIC 1950's BLACK STRAW & VELVET HAT + PURPLE FLOWER + GROSGRAIN STREAMERS

What a beautiful hat from the 1950s'! The round and flat top crown is covered with black velvet, and the medium width brim is made of black straw. There is a grosgrain band around the crown which ends in streamers at one side. At this point here is a beautiful purple fabric flower with some pink strings. There are 2 stays attached to the inside of the hat, which serve to help keep the hat on top of the head. These stays were extremely popular in the fabulous 50s'!Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. Alternatively, ‘pancake’, ‘mushroom’ or ‘cart wheel’ hats sat flat atop the head reviving turn of the century styles.Label: BETMARThis is an authentic piece of fashion history!
