FESTIVE 1950s' RED STRAW PLATTER HAT WITH NAVY VELOUR EDGING

This beautiful red straw hat from the fashionable 1950s' consists of a cap that is surrounded midway by a medium width downturned brim. The look is that of a "platter". The edges of the brim are trimmed in navy velour in a large scalloped design. There is an elastic band attached to the inside to keep the hat in place. Beautiful!!!Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance.They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble.
