PRETTY 1940s' BLACK FELT HAT WITH FUCHSIA FEATHER "FLOWER" & VEILING

This is a beautiful hat from the 1940s'. The black felt hat has a conical shaped crown which is supposed to sit towards the back of the head, secured via the elastic band attached to the inside. The brim is upturned at the front and sides, and it decreases in size towards the back. Around the crown there is a narrow velour band, plus a strip of black veiling that ties at the back and streams downwards. A stunner!The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
