CHIC 1960s' PALE BLUE WIDE BRIM HAT - VELOUR BAND + LARGE WHITE OSTRICH FEATHER

This is a delightful pale blue straw hat with a gorgeous large white ostrich feather. The round crown is indented at the top and surrounded by a wide brim, which is upturned at the back. There is a velour band around the crown that ends in a bow at the side. There its an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to keep it in place.Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble.
