FABULOUS 1940s' BLACK STRAW WIDE BRIM TILT HAT WITH FABRIC FLOWERS AND BOWS

This is a beautiful black straw wide brim tilt hat from the '40s! The short crown is surrounded by a wide brim leaving a "cap" towards the back, allowing perhaps a hatpin to secure the hat in a tilted position. There is an elastic band attached to the inside, which does hold the hat in place. The brim is bent so it has a wavy shape. At each side of the back, under the brim, there are two bows made of a light tan grosgrain.The top of the hat is adorned by some beautiful multicolored fabric flowers and stems.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials.
