This truly stunning black wide brim hat from the 1940s' is a showstopper. It consists of a small crown tilted forward, surrounded by a creatively waving wide and stiff upturned brim. The crown is edged with a narrow grosgrain band and 3 bows. From the front bow there's a beautiful claret red feather spray, which looks like a flower.The elegant look is finished by an intact black dotted veil, which covers the face, or it can be tucked on top of the brim.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular.
