This black felt fedora is typical of the fashions of the era. The conical crown tilts forward and is indented at the top. The brim is mostly on the front, and is turned down. There is a red piece of veiling that surrounds the crown and ends in a knot at the back. The ends of the veil have little velour squares with a rhinestone in the middle. There is a tall red and black feather trim at the front, which is attached with a large matching felt bow.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
