This beautiful and striking hat from the 1940s' consists of a beret style cap made of very fine black felt. There is a black grosgrain bow at one side Originating from under the bow, there are 2 large orange ostrich feathers, plus shorter black feathers. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. LABEL: GLENOVER HATS - HENRY POLLAK INC.Henry Pollak started designing ladies’ hats in New York around 1910. His hats were famous for exquisite designs and very high quality, and they were highly sought after. Still today they are a large part of hat collections. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
