What a showstopper! This artfully created tilt hat from the 1930s' is made of crin. It consists of a round, flat shape created by overlaying crin "petals" to form the circle. At the center there is a magnificent fuchsia ostrich feather edged in black. There is a black grosgrain covered wire ring attached, so as to hold the hat in a tilted position.Crin, also known as crinoline or horsehair, is a net-like material, easy to mold and is often used in the decoration of clothing, hats and accessories.Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
