Framed chromolitograph from a book Glossary Of Ecclesiastical Ornament And Costume , which was released in 1846 and published by M. & N. Hanhart in London.
Saint Pancratius was a Roman citizen who converted to Christianity and was martyred around the year 304. The litograph shows him with a halo, signifying his sainthood, set against a colorful background with decorative patterns. Saint Pancratius is venerated in both the Eastern and Western Christian traditions, and is the patron saint of children, oaths, and protection against headaches.
The publisher of the book left blank pages before and after each litograph, so when these pages are taken out and framed, the integrity of the written pages will not suffer. The litograph is in a wooden frame with gold finish.
