For your consideration is this antique ewer produced in Japan during the Nippon Era (1891-1921). The bottom is marked with the blue maple leaf Hand Painted Nippon mark dating back to first use in 1891 (Collector's Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain 5th Series by Joan F. Van Patten). According to The Collector's Encyclopedia of Nortake by Joan Van Patten, this mark was used by Noritake at the Nippon Kaisha Ltd. factory. The blue color indicates it was second grade. Beautifully hand painted on the pitcher is what looks budo grapes, leaves and flowers with a yellow and rust colored background done in an ombre effect. The top rim, handle and bottom ridge are all gold gilt. The bottom has raised moriage type dots around it. Observed on the handle is a bit of gold loss which is common for pieces of this nature and age.
