Japanese antique Hizen Imari yaki pair of porcelain soup or rice bowls. Porcelain is 'jiki' in Japanese. This dates to the Showa period of 1912-1989 according to the seller from Japan, but I think it is possible that they are older. They are decorated with thunder geometric line, in between with flying dragon. They are painted in rust and burgundy color, and sometsuke underglaze blue design on handmade, hand-drawn, and hand-painted Japanese white porcelain in old Edo Hizen style and as the mark on the lid indicates. They are in very good condition for their age with no cracks or chips, there is some surface wear. Size: Diameter 4.13 inches or 10.5 cm, Height 3.54 inches or 9 cm. Weight 250 grams or 8.81 oz.Hizen Imari PorcelainHizen is a broad term for Japanese ceramics and porcelains produced in the Hizen domain on the island of Kyushu which is the present-day Nagasaki and Saga Prefectures during the Tokugawa Period of 1603-1868.Imari: Japanese porcelain wares produced in Arita, named Imari after the port from which they were shipped to other Japanese cities, Southeast Asia, and Europe during the Tokugawa Period 1603-1868; see Arita and Hizen jiki: or porcelain.
