Antique 1872 Thirty Years Adventures and Discoveries of Dr. David Livingstone and the Herald-Stanley Expedition. - This book is according to the publishers a "complete reliable and graphic history of the extensive explorations, important discoveries and thrilling adventures of the greatest explorer of modern times , in the richest and wildest country upon the face of the earth, among savage men, ferocious beasts, deadly reptiles, poisonous insects, etc., etc., covering a period of nearly thirty years, and including a full and graphic account of the Herald-Stanley expedition and what it experienced and accomplished; also, the last letters penned by the great explorer, also, full account of his lonely death, return of the remains to England, burial etc." - Hardcover first edition by Hubbard Bros. Philadelphia & Boston. Sold only by subscription. Notable for being registered in the office of the Librarian of Congress in 1872, a year before Livingstone's death in 1873 - information about this then seems to be added on at the end prior to publication. - Black and white engraving illustrations throughout - 615 pages - Good condition for age. Cover has surface wear, most notably some damage to the spine, however the gold and black embossing is still excellent. Pages have overall even yellowing; some pages have foxing marks and darker discoloration. Binding is in good state; part of the spine is exposed at front page. Measurements: 7 7/8" x 5 1/2" x 1 7/8"
