Made by The Meriden Britannia Co. this napkin ring came in two versions; the adult size and the smaller child's size. The ring was manufactured by the well renowned Meriden Brittania Co. in Meriden, Connecticut, circa 1885. The company was formed in 1852 by Isaac Lewis, along with three other partners.
The ring depicts a prancing horse pulling a ring, with a bird mounted upside down at the bottom of a wreath behind him which is attached to the ring. A floral design is etched into the ring itself. This is another in the long line of highly desirable animal themed silver plated Victorian napkin rings. The marking on this ring is apparent but not discernible; but the number 213 is evident underneath, indicating the child's version; the adult example was number 214.
The condition is very good with almost all of the silver plate intact.
Dimensions: 3 3/16 long x 1 3/4 wide x 2 3/4 high.
