First edition, first printing oversized hardcover copy of A Dog’s Guide to Tokyo by Betty Jean Lifton (W. W. Norton & Company, 1969). With photographs by Eikoh Hosoe. Rare vintage book showcasing daily life in Japan in the mid 20th century and how a dog fits into that environment. A unique and fun book, richly illustrated with photographs. Price clipped jacket now protected in new archival sleeve but with some rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges. Small scratched and torn area near spine in middle of back cover. Boards are straight and largely clean save for bumped corners and very faint discoloration to center of fore edges. Binding is firm and spine is straight. Previous owner’s inscription on fep and remainder mark to top outer edge of text block near spine. Faint darkened area to fore edge of pastedown endpapers near center of page. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. See photos for condition.
