Japanese zelkova
Origin: Japan
Uses: High-end furniture, building materials
A deciduous tree of the elm family, Zelkova serrata.
The wood came from the 2013 Shikinen Sengu (rebuilding of the shrine).
The annual rings are extremely dense, and the grain is fine.
Depending on the part of the wood, there are rare and beautiful patterns like bamboo shoots.
