Rare program booklet for the 1951-1952 season of the Living Theatre, one of America's premier experimental theatre groups, at their first permanent performance space at Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village. Quite international in scope, the plays advertised are: Gertrude Stein's Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights and her Ladies' Voices , Pablo Picasso's Desire , T. S. Eliot's Sweeney Agonistes , Kenneth Rexroth's Beyond the Mountains , and Paul Goodman's Faustina . Co-director Judith Manlina also adds some review notes on Picasso and Eliot's plays. Also printed are a letter from William Carlos Williams concerning some anonymous poems, a poetic response by John Cage after a request for a manifesto on music, and a list of painting for sale by co-director Julian Beck, as well as cast lists for the plays and advertisements for local businesses. The list of sponsors includes Jean Cocteau, Betty Parsons, Alfred Kreymborg, Carl Van Vechten, and Oscar Williams.
