First American edition, first printing hardcover copy of The Christian Philosophy of Saint Augustine by Etienne Gilson (Random House, 1960). A detailed and sober look at the religious, philosophical and political ideas presented by the Bishop of Hippo in the Middle Ages. Some mild shelf wear to jacket. Boards are straight and clean but with corners slightly bumped. Binding is faintly and partially split at title page, but spine is straight and binding remains fairly strong on the whole. A few pages have small bit of liquid staining to top fore corner on and around page 364. Underlining and margin notes heavily on pages of Chapter One, but appears to not extend much beyond that chapter. See photos for condition.
