Vintage KARL SPÖRCK Studio Stoneware Plate Brisling Pottery Michigan Signed Abstract Picasso-Style ArtShips from smoke and pet free homeThis signed stoneware plate is by Michigan artist Karl Sporck (1949-) of Brisling Pottery in Suttons Bay, Michigan. It appears to be hand thrown of stoneware clay. Beautifully glazed and speckled, it's decorated with a "Picasso-style" unique abstract design of blue on white. The center portion of the bottom on the plate is dry as shown in photos. This appears to be from the 80's, but it is not dated. The plate weighs 2 lbs 39 ounces as shown and measures 10" in diameter. This was an estate sale find, I am not sure of the exact age and history. No chips or cracks that I can find. There is one small area of missing clay on the edge of the dry bottom, please see the photos. This is not noticeable when the plate is facing up.Artist Karl Sporck was also a professor at Northwestern Michigan University, where he earned his degrees and the 2006 Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award. He established his studio in 1976 on the Leelanau Peninsula "on a good road" and named it Brisling Pottery. (Brisling are small sardines harvested off the coast of Norway, where Spörck's family had its roots.) His sales building was a tiny, cedar shake building, where you purchased his pottery on the honor system. Karl is retired.tags: boho indie weird celestial goddess nautical unique artistic goth ceramics
