A history of the Mission of St. Francis Xavier at Caughnawaga, Quebec, founded in 1667. The author, Henri Bechard was born in Lewiston, Maine. At the age of 22 he entered the Jesuit novitiate at Sault-au-Recollet, Quebec; the century old institution so closely linked with the history of the Indians of Canada and the U.S. He requested to be appointed to the Mission of St. Francis Xavier at Caughnawaga, Quebec; where the life of the Caughnawaga Indians and their history became his preoccupying study.

This book appears to be in good, used condition. Please see photos. The dustjacket has some tears, marks and imperfections. The pages are wavy as if they may have been damp at one time, but there are no visible indications of water damage. The book does have a musty smell.
