IMPRESSIVE 1940s' BROWN FELT HAT WITH FEATHERS, GOLD TRIM + DOTTED VEILING

This stunning brown felt hat is composed of a medium height flat top crown surrounded by a medium upturned brim, from where a thickbrown veil appears and , is tied at the back, and ends in small brown pompons. The front has a gold trim, which could be bakelite, from where an array of curly brown feathers emerge. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to kept in place. This is a truly amazing piece of fashion history!The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. Printed inside the hat: "MERRIMAC HAT CORP." +A size label stating "ADJUSTABLE HEAD SIZE"This is an authentic piece of fashion history!
