This is truly an amazing hat we have treasured. It consists of an oval crown made of very fine black straw. The crown is high at the front, and shorterat the back. The top of the crown nests large black fabric lowest that are studded with black shiny beads. These same beads adorn the gorgeous long veil. The veil can be placed on top of the hat, as shown in the last couple of photos. At the back there is a straw circle meant to hold this stunner in place. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. Label: NEW YORK CREATION - AdjustableThe New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City and the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous and wanted to support the New York Creation label and keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white & blue. This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Mannequin not for sale.
