DragonFly Pin Brooch Sterling Silver White Sapphire Marcasite
For the dragonfly lover - beautiful vintage piece - never worn (by me - hoarder). I acquired this piece from another dealer in an antique mall I was in - early 90's - gorgeous white sapphire - marquis cut prong set with tiny marcasite crystals. There are no dead or missing stones. The sapphires are crisp and clear unlike older rhinestones. Clearly stamped 925 on the backside - no tarnish or patina - carefully stored. Hard for me to guesstimate the age on this one - perhaps 1950's. Has a solid roll over clasp. Weighs 8.5 grams. This one measures 1 3/8 inches across the top wingspan. 1.25 top to bottom. Condition mint.
History lesson for today: Did you know that the English and French marked sterling items 925 all the way back to the 14th century? It was not the standard in the USA until the beginning of the 1900's.
