Stephen Merritt Hand Thrown Japanese Style Oxblood Red Porcelain Storage Jar.
About the Artist: Stephen Merritt was born in 1947 in Rochester, New York. He earned a BA in 1969 from Oberlin College in Ohio. Merritt apprenticed in Japan in the early 1970s under the tutelage of Inoue Manji and Ishikawa Seiho. Merritt currently lives and works in Irondequoit, NY. Merritt's pieces have been exhibited in renowned museums and galleries, and recently his work has been acquired by several museums including the Everson Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C.and the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA.
