Jane Powell was born Suzanne Burce in Portland, Oregon in 1929 and showed lots of talent in singing and dancing from a very early age. At 14, she won an MGM talent contest and was signed to a contract which led to her first film “Song of the Open Road” in 1944. Her character’s name was Jane Powell and she used it as her stage name for the rest of her life. After her MGM contract ended in the late 50’s, Jane turned to the theater and starred in many musicals and plays. Guest-starring roles in many television shows filled the gaps between theater work until she finally retired in her early 80’s. Jane passed away in 2021 at the age of 92. Jane signed this great publicity photo in red Sharpie and it has been authenticated by PSA/DNA, one of the three leading autograph authentication services in the world.
