DEPARTURE OF THE MAYFLOWER 1620 Trans-Atlantic Voyage Art by A. W. Bayes 1894 Print
This is a Wood Engraving / illustration / print that has been taken from a book dated 1894 and is ready for framing. Measures approximately 11 1/2 x 9 inches.
Departure of the Mayflower refers to the passengers on board the Mayflower during its trans-Atlantic voyage in 1620, most of them becoming the settlers of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. The phrase is also used in the context of A. W. Bayes, an illustrator and designer, who created sensitive interpretations of text and absorbed artistic influences of the time. Bayes's life was unusual, and he died in 1909 after falling heavily while avoiding a street cab.
