Titled Wooding up on the Mississippi this is a highly collectible piece depicting 2 iconic American steamboats Stopping to refuel with firewood on the Mississippi river. The Princess was the fastest steamboat on the Mississippi and the most elegant, it and her sister boat the Natchez made daily trips from Vicksburg to New Orleans. The Princess ultimately met her demise on a Sunday morning, February 27th 1859 shortly after pulling away from a wharf in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her boilers suddenly exploded. Which unfortunately happened often with these types of steamboats. This is a beautiful glimpse into the past. On The bottom under the picture Reads as follows: (left)- EP Palmer DEL. (Center)- Entered according to active Congress in the year 1861 by Currier and Ives.... (right) Currier & Ives LITH NY. (Center under title)- New York published by courier and Ives 152 Nassau st.
