When Tourists from Planet Earth Visited the Juicy World they Often Regaled the Population with Tales of Bygone Eras of Earth's History. One of the Tales that Always Sparked the Interest of the Native Population Revolved Round the Tales of Swashbuckling Pirates. When Pictures of these Intrepid Adventurers were Presented, All of Those who Commanded a Pirate Vessel were Shown Sporting an Eye Patch. Ever Curious, the Question of Why there Existed a Need for an Eye Patch Arose. There Exist Several Easy Answers to this Query...First, a Captain's Eye May Have Injured in Battle. However the more accepted Reason is that, since a Pirate Fought Most of His (or Her) Battles at Night, the Wearing of a Patch Over One Eye Made it Easier for the Eye to Adjust to Darkness. Deacon Ricky here, I do not Believe in that Explaination for so much as Even One Nanosecond. Try wearing an Eye Patch for 24 Hours, Remove It, and Tell Me How Well You Are Able to See Out of the Affected Eye. Although Discredited, I Believe there is Another Perfectly Logical Explanation...The Sextant had Not Yet been Invented; the Quadrant and Cross-Staff Being the Navigational Instruments of the Day. These Required the User to Look Directly at the Sun so as to Determine the Position of the Vessel. To be Fair, the Astrolabe Could be Worked As a Shadow, however the Possibility of Sun Blindness Loomed as a Sword of Damocles. By Employing the use of an Eye Patch the Captain Could Ensure He Always Had One Good Eye to use.
