This is an amazing ring from the 1920's. The Chrysoprase gemstone is a variety of Chalcedony with a Cryptocrystalline form of Silica mixed in when the gem is being formed. This particular apple-green is the most sought after color and sometimes referred to as Prase. The carved Intaglio is exceptional depicting Hera, The Queen of The gods in Greek mythology. She was the sister AND wife of Zeus, and the daughter of Titans, Crotons, and Rhea. She was know for her jealousy and vengeance particularly towards Zeus's many lovers and their children. She was also a patron goddess of cities like Argos and Samos. This ring is designed very feminine as far as intaglio rings go. It has a beautiful, slender band that has been care-worn. The many years I've had it, I chose not to have the engraving redone because the original is fabulous. If you look closely, it is a wonderful harlequin pattern with a tiny starburst inside each quadrangle. It was mil grained down both sides which is a tiny beaded design. It truly is a stunning ring. The gold is 10 karat and has a hint of rose to the yellow gold.It is a size 7 and can be sized by a professional jeweler. Hera's role as queen of the gods, made her goddess of marriage, women and child birth. This would make this special ring a wonderful "push present"! The ring will come in a nice ring box suitable for presentation.
