Exclusive Gumma Kokeshi by Sansaku Sekiguchi Titled: Going to the Mountains
This kokeshi is titled 'Ikusanga' and is an unusual design by one of the most famous kokeshi makers. It depicts a traveler going through the mountains. She is in excellent condition.
Sansaku Sekiguchi was born in 1925 and is the only certified Master of Creative Kokeshi by the Japanese Government. He even has his museum in Gunma. He has won numerous awards, including three times the prestigious Prime Minister Award!!! His kokeshi are arguably among the most popular and sought by collectors worldwide, making them highly expensive. Sekiguchi-San passed away in 2018. His sons, Toa and Toshio, and his daughter, Izumi, now also make kokeshi quite successfully, winning many prizes at contests.
