Vintage petrified wood sterling silver clip on earrings. Acquired from a private estate collection, these Southwestern earrings features large oval shaped rainbow wood cabochons with a fascinating green and pink matrix. Petrified wood is a fossil that is formed when plant material is buried by sediment and protected from decay due to oxygen and organisms. Then, groundwater rich in dissolved solids flows through the sediment, replacing the original plant material with silica, quartz, or calcite. Vintage specimens are rare and highly collectible. Granulated bezel setting. Unsigned and acid tested for 925 sterling silver. 1.15” length and 0.8” width. Excellent pre-owned condition.
