Moss Agate (also known as Mocha Stone) unlike its name, is not actually an Agate at all, rather it is a Chalcedony with dendritic inclusions of Manganese, Chrome, and/or Iron. Moss Agate has localities all over the world, with the most important commercialized deposits being in India. In fact, around 75% of all Moss Agate on the market is directly sourced from India.
Snuff Bottles of interesting shapes appeared before the making of snuff bottles became a production line. This bottle has an interesting shape that is like a flattened rectangular form that tapered to a small flat oval foot. On its side are two very dramatic animal masks with rings. The stone itself is moss agate or dendritic agate which contained plant like substance. The bottle is further emphasized by a large light green Burmese jade cap.
