This is an adorable handmade ejiko kokeshi doll from Japan.
The doll has a floral design on the body with stripes around the neck area.
Head rotates.
Nice woodgrain on the body with several small, natural knots, burls and cracks in the wood which are not flaws. Please see photos for reference.
Measures 5 inches tall.
Ejiko dolls are said to depict a baby in a basket, which is how women kept their babies while they worked in the fields.
Kokeshi are handmade wooden dolls that have been handcrafted for over 100 years in Japan as toys for children. They are crafted from locally sourced wood, have a simple trunk/body and head with small, thin lines to create the facial features.
May have dirt, knicks, fading paint in areas, etc. associated with age. With all vintage items, imperfections can be expected.
